5 Social Media Tips for the End of 2022

If you’ve been online much in the past year (who hasn’t?), you’ve probably noticed that social media has changed! From Instagram fully embracing Reels as their medium of choice to the undeniable grip of TikTok on online spaces, social media is looking just a little different from last year.

We love the fluid, ever-changing nature of social media. It keeps us on our toes and stops us from plateauing in predictable patterns. But at the same time, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the constant ebb and flow of social media and its trends – leading to a feeling of constantly needing to keep up, or else be left behind.

Does this sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone! Social media is a shape-shifting industry, so it’s crucial to stay up-to-date if you want to thrive in these spaces. Here are our five biggest tips that you can use to ramp up your social media marketing as we move into Quarter 4!

Reels aren’t going away

(and vertical video is your new best friend)

Once a hub dedicated almost entirely to photos, Meta and its social media behemoth Instagram have bet the farm on Reels content in this past year. Capitalizing on the trend-frenzy of TikTok (more on them later), the platform has made a dramatic shift to vertical video content.

For those thinking that Reels would be a passing fad, it’s time to adjust your mindset. These little videos aren’t going away anytime soon! With 9 out of 10 Instagram users watching Reels weekly and Reels receiving almost twice the engagement of regular posts, it’s clear that this is a winning format – and one that won’t be going by the wayside for some time.

What does this mean for you?

Flip that camera!

Shooting and editing videos in a vertical format will save you time and let you get videos up more quickly, and in turn will help you boost your online presence and get your brand in front of so many new audiences.

It's time to get on TikTok

It’s official, TikTok is TikTaking over.

With around 1 BILLION monthly users, this platform is a favourite of many. It’s also the number one choice for users aged 25 and under. At this point, TikTok is a must, particularly if your brand is targeted toward the Gen Z demographic.

Most brands have hopped on TikTok, with many reaching great success already. Some brands go for comedy, like Gymshark’s workout memes and Spikeball’s hilarious use of user-generated content. Others use the app to rethink traditional marketing, such as these runway-esque lookbook videos by Dior. Finally, some brands, like the San Diego Zoo are lucky enough to game the algorithm with ridiculously cute videos of baby animals.

Whether you’re a non-profit making educational videos, a trades company with satisfying before and afters, or a retail store showing off new products, there’s a way to make TikTok work for you in Q4. The key is to follow along with fast-moving TikTok trends, post consistently, and stay as active as you can on the app.

Embrace the trends

(Even when you don't want to)

If you’ve ever stopped liking something once it was cool, this is the tip for you. Like it or not, trends are the undisputed rulers of social media, and they’re the number one way to see online growth – fast. From audio to dance routines, capitalizing on trends will help you grow your base organically and expand your reach to new potential customers online.

Of course, trends can be subtle, and a nuanced understanding can really help your content feel more relatable. Little things, such as the TikTok format trends (e.g. ‘POV:,’ ‘Get dressed with me,’ etc.)  show that you understand the platform and, by extension, your audience.

With that said, make it make sense – for your brand. If your identity is more on the professional side, it might not be the best idea to do videos of employees flossing in the office (unless you want to show your wild side for once). Closely following trends will help you keep track of ones that will work for your brand, and ones that might not.

Short and sweet for the win!

The human attention span is on a downward trend, and modern audiences don’t care for fluff. Keep captions, videos, and posts as brief and informative as you can to ensure that each and every word has an impact!

You should do a social media audit

(no really, you should)

Lastly, it’s time to consider whether Quarter 4 is finally the moment you get some help from the pros. Although most of us are quite adept with social media in our personal lives, the amount of time, energy, and knowledge needed to get your brand’s accounts off the ground can be staggering.

A social media audit is an easy way to get an objective look at your online presence and begin making informed, deliberate changes. A great audit will help identify your brand’s strengths and points for improvement and give you the knowledge you need to grow.
